Hi Blinky, While you cannot use non-standard attributes via the EMS (at least not using the RecipientFilter) or EMC, if you can stomach working with LDAP query syntax, you can still create dynamic distribution lists through directly specifying the LDAP query on the Active Directory object. I prefer this approach as I cannot stomach data redundancy created through duplicating existing attributes into the custom attributes. I realise this isn't inline with your question about a GUI approach, but I just figured I'd mention as much in case you weren't sure it was even an option. I did write up a brief article on how to achieve this here, but it will not be of interest if your heart's set on the GUI approach. Cheers, Lain

There must be some kind of GUI alternative to creating dynamic distribution groups in Exchange 2007, right? Has anyone come across such a utility? I mean, EMC already has a very rudimentary wizard built in, but it's limited to things like "state" and "zip code". What if i want to include things like which server the mailbox is homed on and whether or not the mailbox is hidden or not? I'm not knocking powershell mind you; i use it daily for certain tasks. It just seems like there has to be some kind of wizard-driven mechanism for something like this. *bangs head in frustration*

Unfortunately there is no way with native Microsoft tools From http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996561(v=exchg.80).aspx If you want to specify conditions other than the ones available on this wizard page, you must use the Exchange Management Shell to create a custom query for the dynamic distribution group. Keep in mind that the filter and condition settings for dynamic distribution groups that have custom recipient filters can be managed only by using the Exchange Management Shell. Have not had a chance, but going over the article i'm pretty sure it's not going to work for me. Damn. Just seemed like a simple enough thing to build a simple gui around. Oh well.
